In India, the highly trained Hospitality industry sadly lacks knowledge and training when it comes to Banquet services and their understanding of what should be allowed and what shouldnโ€™t.ย

The higher the stars they have, the sad is their knowledge and awareness.ย
As facilitators, many of us rely on walls to put up our charts and sticky walls and as we donโ€™t use projectors or slides, we carry masking tapes (white paper tapes used by painters, carpenters etc.) that absolutely donโ€™t damage the walls.

And yet the wastage of time to explain this to the banquet staff who object to putting up these charts on the wall. Requesting the Banquet Manager presence helps (an additional time-waster) but at its worst - the Manager rejects the idea stating some idiotic policy that doesnโ€™t differentiate between masking-tape and double-sided bonding tapes.ย
My question to them is - If you had made these halls for only weddings and drabby one-way meetings, please donโ€™t sell it for trainings & facilitation!

So as I love to say,

We started using the floor as a wall for placing charts and at times even pasting a sticky wall. And it works beautifully. Only caveat is if the participants are disadvantaged or face a challenge sitting on the floor or bending and pasting on the floor.ย

First it was just a juggadโ€ฆ later realised that the top-down view when a participant is standing and looking at the floor-chart is an amazing perspective by itself.ย

The first time I used it was in 1998 in a 3-star hotel in Delhi and now most of my workshops will have at least one method on the floor. Now I see many facilitators also using it as a design norm.

ย Once I had faced a major irritation- a 5-Star Manager came running and didnโ€™t allow any paper-tape on the floor โ€“ asked us to remove immediately. Bless this Banquet Manager! I never used this space again and requested many of my clients not to use them.

So, do you ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ท๐—ผ๐˜† ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ผ๐—ป the floor too?ย
